Moving with Reusable Boxes and Smart Route Planning in Cologne, Germany-wide and International

Topics on this page

A move quickly generates a lot of single-use material: plastic wrap, tape and boxes that end up in the paper recycling after one use. On top of that come trips that better planning would have made unnecessary.

At Gebr. Roggendorf GmbH, we therefore plan your move so that as little material as possible is thrown away and our vehicles are well utilized. This page explains what that means in practice.

"A good move is carefully planned, punctual and efficiently organized. With reusable boxes and smart route planning, we ensure smooth moves in Cologne, across Germany and internationally."

How planning avoids unnecessary trips

Definition: What is behind the term?

Most empty runs happen because the volume was misjudged. That is why we survey your belongings in advance, either on site or by video survey. This lets us choose the right vehicle size and avoid a second truck having to follow.

If your moving date is somewhat flexible, we can combine trips, for example by delivering your boxes together with another job in your area. We also clarify the no-parking zone and access to the building beforehand. This saves waiting time and maneuvering on moving day.

“A well-organized move relies on the conscious use of resources. Reusable moving boxes and efficient route planning reduce unnecessary transport and avoid packaging waste.”

Which materials we use

Reusable boxes instead of single-use boxes

We provide sturdy moving boxes that we use again and again. After your move, we pick them up from you. Boxes that can no longer be used are baled and recycled.

For office and archive moves, we also offer reusable plastic crates. They cost a little more than boxes, and we list the prices in your quote.

Paper padding and blankets instead of bubble wrap

We protect dishes and glasses with packing paper and honeycomb cardboard. Furniture is wrapped in moving blankets, which we take back with us after the move. We only use plastic wrap where it is really necessary, for example for upholstered furniture that needs protection from moisture.

What you can do before your move

  1. Declutter beforehand: Every piece of furniture that stays behind saves volume. You can sell or donate furniture in good condition, and we can dispose of the rest properly on request.
  2. Book early: With two to three weeks lead time, we can combine trips more effectively and deliver the reusable boxes in good time.
  3. Label your boxes: Write the room and contents on every box. This saves time when unloading.
  4. Clarify access: Floor, elevator, parking in front of the building. The more precisely we know this, the less waiting time on moving day.
  5. Return the boxes: Let us know once you have unpacked, and we will pick up the reusable boxes.

Long-distance moves: making good use of cargo space

On long-distance moves, we make sure our trucks are well loaded. If there is free cargo space on a route, we combine your move with shipments from other customers heading in the same direction. This means fewer half-empty trucks on the road. Whether this is possible for your date is something we clarify during planning.

"Through smart route planning and optimal use of our vehicles, we avoid unnecessary empty runs and ensure an efficient, well-organized move."

What does a move with reusable materials cost?

Reusable boxes are part of our standard moving quote. What your move costs overall depends mainly on the volume, the distance and any additional services you book, such as packing service, furniture assembly or a no-parking zone.

That is why we survey your belongings in advance, either on site or by video survey. On this basis, you receive a quote in which every service is listed individually. Reusable plastic crates for office and archive moves cost a little more than boxes. They are also listed with their price in the quote.

Is a move with Roggendorf climate-neutral?

No, and we do not claim it is. Every move causes emissions, mainly from the truck journeys. Good planning does not fundamentally change that.

We focus on what we can influence ourselves: We survey the volume precisely in advance so that the right vehicle size arrives and no second trip is needed. On long-distance moves, we use free cargo space for other customers’ shipments. And for packing materials, we rely on boxes that are used many times instead of single-use material.

What happens to furniture that is not coming along?

Before a move, there is almost always something that should not come along to the new home or office. Office furniture in good condition does not have to be thrown away: through our used furniture service, we pass it on so it can be used elsewhere.

You can sell private furniture in good condition or donate it to social department stores. We can dispose of everything else through licensed waste disposal companies on request. This can be combined directly with your move. We will tell you the costs in advance in your quote.

Tell us when and where you are moving. We survey your belongings, plan the vehicle and materials, and send you a quote in which every service is listed individually.
